From the rooftop spa and pool to the beautiful views of Santa Barbara Castle, your stay at Hospes Amerigo Alicante will be sprinkled with five-star luxury.
First of all, our weekend trip to Alicante was a secret and a surprise to my boyfriend, a birthday celebration there in December. It was cold, grey and moody in Newcastle & I wanted to spend couple days somewhere totally different. Hospes Amerigo is the only 5 star hotel in Alicante so it was an easy decision and a no-brainer to raise a glass of birthday bubbly there.
As soon as we arrived to our hotel in Alicante, we were pleasantly surprised how beautiful, clean and minimalistic everything was and it had the mediterranean spirit right from the beginning. The staff, looking after us, were incredibly friendly and well-informed not only about their hotel but about Alicante’s attractions, local restaurants and shops. And did I mention that we were welcomed with a complimentary drink? So while the staff took our luggage up to the room, we stayed outside, had a glass of Prosecco and enjoyed the sunshine that we were missing in the UK.
One of the main reasons I thought Hospes Amerigo was a perfect hotel for us was its location. As we visited Alicante for a weekend only, it was important to be able to reach everything within minutes. Hospes Amerigo is exactly that, located in a historical part of the city, just as close to Alicante’s Marina as it is to many shops and cafes on every corner. Santa Barbara Castle, which I will be mentioning a few times later on, is only a few minutes away, as well as the Volvo Ocean Race museum.Again, if you come to Alicante by bus from the airport, it is only a few minutes walk away from the most popular stop by the Melia Hotel.
Hospes Amerigo building was originally built in the 16th century and then renovated to create a boutique hotel kinda vibe. It was restored with elegance and an Avant-garde twist you cannot miss. The hotel has a lot of wood materials, marble and beautiful balconies overlooking narrow streets of the city filled with local conversations, delicious Spanish food and gorgeous neighbourhood architecture.Despite the fact that the hotel is located in the heart of the city, it is very cosy and not too busy. Our windows were facing the street with outdoor seating and yes, it was a little loud at night as it was Saturday night but it didn’t disturb us from falling asleep at all. Moreover, it helped us to immerse with local culture even better & encouraged us to go and join the Spanish fiesta.
ROOMS & SUITES
Hospes Amerigo has a great variety of rooms and suites to suit everyone’s needs. From smaller to family rooms, the hotel welcomes every traveller visiting Alicante. Most rooms have big windows, balconies and high ceilings which make all rooms brighter and more spacious. I have a personal love for high ceilings as it makes your room feel twice as big as it actually is. All rooms also have tea & coffee facilities as well as a minibar, bathrobes, slippers and even Egyptian cotton bed linen. During our stay at Hospes Amerigo, we were lucky to get a free upgrade to a Superior room which meant we had two gorgeous balconies to look from with a view to Alicante’s one and only Santa Barbara Castle that gets lit up at night. Our room had the usual 5 star hotel luxury, including above mentioned facilities and local press, Free Wi-Fi & even a Pillow menu. Moreover, our room also had both shower & bathtub plus two sinks so we had never felt like we had to wait for each other or push each other out of the way. While my boyfriend was shaving, I was able to do my make up and get ready at the same time. I’m all up for 2 sinks in your hotel room from now on!
RESTAURANTS & BARS
Hospes Amerigo has Fondillon restaurant and Fondillon bar. Fondillon restaurant uses only native ingredients and create fine dining dishes with a Mediterranean touch. The restaurant set up is very minimalistic and incredibly romantic if you are after a romantic dinner for two (or double date?) in Alicante. If fine dining is not really your cup of tea, you could try a more relaxed Fondillon Bar that offers a great variety of tapas and a range of local and international beverages. If you visit Alicante in the summer season, go up to the 4th floor of the hotel and have a few cocktails at the Penthouse bar with the greatest views of Alicante. I promise! You’ll get some gorgeous views of Santa Barbara castle from here too. They also have DJ nights during the season at their Penthouse bar, making it a great place for not only a few cocktails but also ideal for deep & house music lovers.
We also chose to have breakfast at Hospes Amerigo during our stay and yes, it was very delicious indeed. As someone who has been to a great variety of hotels and tried and tested a few breakfast buffets, I was pleasantly surprised with what Hospes Amerigo had on offer. You are able to choose from a variety of meat, cheese, bread, fruits, yogurts, cereals and sweet pastries. Also, you are able to get eggs to order which is now pretty standard for 5 star hotels. Moreover, I went one step further and asked for my favourite eggs Benedict with smoked salmon. The chef took my challenge with no problems and presented me with what I requested. You also get a great variety of cold and hot drinks for your breakfast, including Cava. Did you know that Spanish people drink Cava for breakfast? So if you think it is ever too early for a bit of fizz, think again. Of course I had a glass of Cava with my breakfast and it was anything but ordinary.
MEETINGS & EVENTS
Hospes Amerigo also organises meetings & events if you wanted to bring your team here for a business meeting or celebrate a special occasion. The hotel has 12 function rooms with a capacity of 200 guests. If you ask me, it is a exquisite place to be. You can also book an event on the terrace in which they would go the extra mile for you!
Hotel’s SPA is located on the rooftop of the hotel which makes it extra special. SPA offers great views over the city as well as Santa Barbara Castle (I told you I will mention this castle a few times). It has treatment cabins if you want to purchase one of their treatments, mini-gym area, sauna, relaxation area, pool and a solarium-terrace. If you choose to visit their SPA, you can pick towels upstairs next to the SPA for it, so don’t worry bringing anything with you!BODYNA SPA uses only their own products that are exclusive and adapted for the professional treatments. All products have natural elements as their spa follow the harmless concept. All in all, we couldn’t fault anything at Hospes Amerigo as we felt the experience went above and beyond our expectations and the staff made it simple to fall in love with it. When i visit Alicante again, I will, without a doubt, choose to stay at this hotel again.
